Car buyers tend to go for vehicles that are attractive, have great amenities and are great to drive. While these are legitimate qualities to look for in a car, buyers should not neglect safety features in vehicles. Safety features not only provide peace of mind but they can protect the lives of the car’s passengers in the event of an accident as well.

The best cars are at par or even exceed current Federal safety standards. Reliability is also important as buyers would want a car that requires less maintenance and will remain viable for many years. Consumer reports and auto car magazines are some good places to start looking for cars that rank well in reliability with consumers.

First, a good vehicle should come equipped with a good anti-lock braking system or ABS. The ABS prevents the brakes from locking during sudden brakes and turns, enabling drivers to maintain control of their vehicles. Newer models on the market come with anti-lock breaking systems for all four wheels of the vehicle though some sport utility vehicles (SUVs) come with either four-wheel or two-wheel ABS systems.

A good vehicle should also have efficient Electronic Stability Control or ESC. ESC helps drivers maintain control of their vehicles during intense spinning, thereby preventing the vehicle from spinning out of control. ESC monitors wheel speed, even braking one or more wheels if necessary. Buyers should inquire about ESC when they scout vehicles at the Yuba City Nissan dealership.

Good vehicles should also come with tire pressure monitoring systems or TPMS. TPMS uses a warning light on the dashboard to alert drivers when one or more wheels are severely under-inflated. The industry standard is to signal the driver when tire pressure is below 25%. Furthermore, good Yuba City Nissan vehicles should have appropriate seat belts installed in the seats. All newer models have a warning light and audio signal that alerts drivers when one of the passengers does not have their seat belts buckled in properly.

Excellent Yuba City Nissan vehicles also have reliable airbags that are installed on all possible impact points, and which deploy automatically in mild or severe collisions. The main airbags should be at the driver’s seat and front passenger seat to prevent impact on the steering wheel, dashboard, or windows. Side airbags or curtain airbags should also be installed to prevent passengers from hitting the windows or from smashing into the sides of the vehicle.
